A Note from the Guild about Hand Sanitizer

As a Guild we wanted to put a note about the production of hand sanitizer. Each distillery in our guild has different equipment, productions and abilities to fill these needs. Many of our smaller producers are working with local agencies on other needs for things such as equipment cleaner. Without getting into too much chemistry there is a difference between hand sanitizer alcohol and alcohol in the spirits you drink. Not everyone has access to the other items needed to make effective hand sanitizer. In addition, for ethanol-based cleaners to be effective, it requires a higher proof than what you drink which can lead to other issues such as it being flammable. Please check the websites or social media of individual distillers as to their capabilities and plans for such items. The Craft Distillers have been quick to notify everyone if they are or can produce sanitization material. We know many are and continue to donate both products and profits at this time. We ask that you be understanding and respectful that all of us are doing what we can, with what we have. We are all in this together and trust that all our craft distillers are doing their best in such a strange time.
